To: All Parents / Guardians
The present year is gone old. Let it depart. You need not worry. It had been kind to you – not so kind as it should have been. But God willed it so.
The examination result on the other page of this paper is a true reflection of your ward’s performance in the subjects recorded. However, it is pertinent to raise some points connected with the performance with a view to improving on it. Despite the known distractions like television, cell phones, negative peer group influence etc, traditional reading is still an important skill. Whether it is school textbooks, journals, novels or newspapers, people still read; though not as much as they used to. One reason that people don’t gain much from reading is that they don’t read well, as the reading may lack purpose. Students may have to read something several times before they understand and remember what they read. It is better to read with purpose.
Parents, Guardians, Teachers and The School should encourage their wards to give more attention to reading. Reading exercises our brains. Reading is a much more complex task for the human brain than say, watching television. Reading strengthens the brain connections and actually builds new connections. Reading relaxes the body and calms the mind, thus making a child to be less aggressive or violent. Did you know that the constant movement, flashing lights and noise which bombard our senses when we’re watching television, or playing an electronic game are actually quite stressful for our brains? When we read, we read in silence and the black print on a white paper is much less stressful for our eyes and brains.
On a positive note, children learn new words as they read and they unconsciously absorb information as they read about things like how to structure sentences and how to use words and language effectively. Regular reading improves a child’s vocabulary and leads to more highly developed language skills and improves the child’s ability to write well. Because reading does all the things mentioned above and many more, children who read always perform better at school. And they don’t just do better at subjects like English and Reading alone, they do better in all subjects and all the way through school.
The Management of Latmos Schools comprising Latmos Comprehensive College and Latmos Foundation School are vehemently against mediocrity in any form, hence, we strive to attain excellent performance in our set goals. Parents / Guardians are urged to work with us in fighting laziness, dirtiness, arrogance, carelessness, stubbornness, destructive tendencies, lateness to school and occasions, extravagance and watching obscene films on Television and Internet. They are additional sources of distraction from the real goal.
The schools have strong, steady internet supply that can be connected by Wi–Fi. Any student that can bring his / her laptop can do that during computer practical.
The schools will continue to encourage our parents who strive to pay their fees during the holidays. Bank customers are not many during the school holidays. Then, the students are more relaxed and undisturbed.
